The half sovereign was first introduced in 1544 under Henry VIII.

The half sovereign is an English and later a British/ Commonwealth gold coin with a value of half a pound sterling, or ten shillings.

It is half the weight of its counterpart 'full' sovereign coin making it a more affordable option

Depending on the date range generally 1900 to 1920,  most are minted in the  United Kingdom occasionally minted in Australia.
